Snorkeling on Maui is always a treat for me as I never get out as much as I would like too.

I reserved a space on Maui Magic out of Maalaea. I arrived at 7am to hot coffee, fresh fruit and bagels. I then had a seat and listened to the crew share information about the boat, and all the safety info we would need. It was interesting to learn about the Snuba option on the boat. An instructor will take you down 20-feet like scuba diving only without all the tanks on. The air tanks are in a raft above the water. So, I think to myself, “Wow. I can experience diving without all the gear, sounds like fun.”

We left the harbor with the blowing of a conch shell and an Hawaiian chant. This was done to ask the Gods for permission to enter the waters and have a safe journey. This was a very special experience for all on board, and great to learn a bit more about the Hawaiian culture. As we cruised the coastline we were greeted with Humpback Whales playing with their new baby calves. The crew made sure to spend time watching these beautiful ocean mammals; they never seize to amaze. They also shared their knowledge about Maui’s own dormant volcano, Mt. Haleakala, and all about the South Maui coastline that we were viewing. We then had the pleasure to see a huge pod of spinner dolphins!

When we arrived to Molokini, the water was the most beautiful color of blue, and the reef was full of colorful, tropical fish. The snorkeling was awesome, and again, the crew was great and super helpful with the beginners and expert snorkelers. After about an hour, off we went to our second location, a a secret spot full of Green Hawaiian Sea Turtles. After snorkeling, a wonderful BBQ lunch with all the fixings was awaiting us. Yum… I had the cheeseburger with a grilled pineapple and Maui chips.

After lunch, down the slide, and into the water I went! That was something I hadn’t done since my childhood days, wee! What a perfect way to spend 5 hrs on Maui.  Maui No Ka Oi!
