I tell my customers that I am the Maui Snuba Queen! Snuba Diving on Maui is like Scuba diving, only without all the cumbersome tanks and equipment on your back; you can also go down at your own pace once in the water. At first, I didn’t think I was going to like it. However, I simply pretended to snorkel with my respirator until I felt comfortable, and then I slowly let myself down a few inches, then about one foot at a time.

The views are simply amazing! Guests have an opportunity to dive down close to see live colorful corals, brightly colored tropical fish, and of course the Hawaiian Sea Turtles! I once had a Manta Ray doing somersaults right in front of me!

SNUBA allows a person to dive 10-20 feet below the surface of the ocean while exploring a three dimensional underwater world that’s not possible to experience while snorkeling! While Snuba diving, you can see all around you, not just what is under you like when snorkeling. With the oxygen tank on a “raft” on the ocean surface, you only have the weights and a regulator attached to a harness as your main equipment. This leaves you free to dive down more comfortably.

Snuba is an upgrade offered only on a handful of Molokini Snorkel Cruises, as well as on a couple of the Kaanapali Snorkel Cruises. Snuba prices vary depending on the snorkel tour.  Snuba Diving on Maui is wonderful experience and so much fun! I’d recommend it to anyone one over the age of 8 years old, and I’ve seen all shapes, sizes and ages Snuba diving.

Snuba instructor’s will teach guests the basics during a “Snuba 101” type of a class on the way out to the snorkel destination. I highly recommend purchasing the Photo/Video package, if it’s available for your tour. Especially if you are diving at Molokini, which is famous for its 150-ft visibility and cobalt blue waters. The photos usually turn out amazing, but you will have a chance to view the photos and video before purchasing.

All in all, a Snuba Diving on Maui is a great way to explore Hawaii’s underwater paradise, and fun for the whole family!
