The Smith Family Luau is always at the top of the list for being one of the best luaus in Kauai. I had the pleasure of attending the Smith Family Luau a few weeks ago while visiting the beautiful Garden Isle. All I can say is WOW…
With one of the best luau garden settings in all of Hawaii, the Smith Family Luau is a long time family affair. We decided to go a little early to enjoy their famous gardens and to feed the peacocks. My cousin Kim and I were greeted with beautiful orchid flower leis before having our picture taken with a couple of the Hula Dancers (I always buy the photo, they are always a fun momento.
The Smith Luau experience starts with a tram ride around their famous gardens. After admiring the tropical flowers and gardens, we were in time to watch their famous Imu Ceremony which is the unearthing of the pig that has been cooking in the underground oven all day.
It is now time to eat! We wandered into the open air “long house’ for a delicious Hawaiian buffet. There were three bars set up inside, and we could have as many Mai Tai’s, Blue Hawaii’s and adult drinks possible during dinner. The Hawaiian buffet was excellent, as so were the desserts and fresh fruit choices. Yummm… During dinner, the Smith Family Luau has a small stage with live Hawaiian Music. I highly recommend that guests take this opportunity to go up on stage when called to, and learn a little Hula because it’s super fun. Even I still go up on stage occasionally…
After dinner we took a short stroll to where the Smith Family Luau has their outdoor stage with a volcano! The show was incredible, with lots of hula dancers and an island princess who rises from the fire of the volcano set. You will also be treated to a Samoan fire Knife dance finale…
As we departed after a fabulous evening, my cousin told me that the Smith Family Luau was the best Hawaiian Luau she had ever been to. Next time I’m on Kauai, I will definitely go again!
