Fridays on Maui are also known as Friday town parties or block parties. Each Friday on Maui four different towns on the Island have block parties.
* KIHEI IS HOSTING the 4th Firdays now, and will be held at Azeka's (Mauka - volcano side). they will be closing Piikea st. from Longs to Safeway. Lots of food and entertainment!! .
The First Friday of the month is called 1st Friday in Wailuku. This is where it all began over five years ago. Main street in Wailuku is about 3 blocks of small Hawaiian boutiques, cafes and jewelry stores. The merchants of Wailuku in central Maui needed a boost to help their small businesses and sought help from the county of Maui to help co-sponsor a block party to bring locals and guest alike together. This family friendly event starts at 5pm the 1st Friday of the month. Guest filled the streets and enjoy food booths, crafts ,and amazing music from Jazz to Hawaiian. Maui Thing, one of businesses on Market St., has a stage in front of the store where local bands perform or maybe you will catch one of their many fashion shows. For more info go to: www.economic.development@mauicounty.gov or if you're on the mainland watch live at www.wailukucam.com
Second Friday is in Lahaina Town also known as art night in Lahaina. Lahaina will have more culture and history to share. The Baldwin home holds a candlelit tour of the property and also includes a tour of the Wo Hing museum. The story of the Hawaiian quilts is on display in front of the Baldwin House. All the Lahaina restaurants offer great pupus (appetizers), menus, and drink specials. Every park offers Hawaiian music to Rock and Roll, so make sure to bring your beach chair. Lahaina Town Action Committee works together with all the businesses to make sure this is a family friendly 5-8pm event.
Third Friday is in Makawao up country Maui. Makawao is in Maui's up country area which is also known for its rodeos and cowboys. So pull on your cowboy boots and head up country on the third Friday to enjoy music ,food and shopping with local crafters. (if it's raining....find someting else to do...... Makawao is "Up Country" and is mostly green pastures and lush tropical flowers ....which means it rains up there on a regular basis)
Fourth Friday on Maui, is held in Kihei !! From 6-9pm. Kihei is on the South end of Maui and on the 4th Fridays, Azeka's Shopping Center Mauka (mountain side) will offer Music, food and crafters'. We are all looking foward to this new event for Kihei. The first 4th friday drew over 5,000 people! We haven't hear yet how many this last one drew in January. I will share picures and video of the event soon. There was lots of fun things for children to participate in as well as lots of food trucks and vendors selling everything from frozen yogourt to plate lunches and waffles. Liek they do in Europe...there were many tables in the street itself. Tho this month it they were longer tables and not the cute 2 and 4 tops. We sat on the Grass and enjoyed our plates. (I got the Teriyaki Chicken plate and my Dad got the chow Fun which is a very popular item here in Hawaii)
