What to Expect at a Hawaiian Lu’au

The Ka’anapali Hyatt Luau is located on famous Kaanapali Beach! The Ka’anapali Hyatt Luau “Drums of the Pacific Luau” is one of Maui’s best Hawaiian Hula Shows.  Enjoy a large dinner buffet, Hula show and a free drinks all evening.

Hawaiian Lu’aus on Maui are Ocean front and at Sunset time. Check in is between 4:45 -5:45 PM, depending on the Season (Sun).

Enjoy an enchanting evening under the stars at our Kaanapali Beach Hawaiian Lu’au. Your evening starts off with a Shell Lei greeting and a Hawaiian Mai Tai. Wander over and see the Polynesian Crafts. There are several cultural craft tables set up. Browse the Hawaiian Tiki’s and Turtles to pretty flowers for the ladies hair. Men usually enjoy the Warrior collection of warfare instruments.

Be sure and watch the “Imu Ceremony”  as they uncover the Puaʻa (Pig) that has been slowly roasting in an underground oven all day. This is fun to watch and is a great ‘Photo Op’!

Menu

Your Waiter will call you up to the Hawaiian dinner buffet when dinner is served.  What a great variety of food!  There is fresh Island Fish, the roasted Pork (which comes out of the underground oven),  Huli-huli Chicken, my favorite Molokai Sweet Potatoes (purple sweet potatoes) and so much more! The Hyatt’s Drums of the Pacific Lu’au is the only Hawaiian Luau on Maui that also has a Children’s Menu with Chicken Nuggets…

Dessert Table

We recommend trying the local style Haupia (coconut) Pudding, and  the Pineapple Upside Down Cake. For you Chocolate lovers try the yummy Brownies.

Bar

Your ticket price includes free drinks during cocktail hour and dinner.   This the time to try the famous Hawaiian Mai Tai, the Blue Hawaii and the Lava Flow. The Ka’anapali Hyatt Luau, Drums of the Pacific, does not offer cocktail service during the show, if you would like another drink be sure and order from your waiter before the show starts.

Hula Show

The Ka’anapali Hyatt Luau – “Drums of the Pacific” Polynesian Hula Show takes you on a journey through the islands of Polynesia and Hawaii.  The Hyatt Lu’au features authentic Hula dances and music of the old Hawaii, Samoa, Fiji, New Zealand, Tahiti, Tonga, and Rarotonga.  Drums of the Pacific Luau in the hottest Lu’au Show in the Hawaiian Islands… literally as there can be up to 5 Fire Knife Dancers on stage for the Fire Knife Dance finale!

Staff Note

Overall the Ka’anapali Hyatt Lu’au is a good value for families and those staying in the Lahaina-Kaanapali to Kapalua side of Maui. Maui Sights and Treasure offers group discounts for more than 20 guests and free tickets for children under the age of 12 when accompanied by 2 Adults. All children under the age of 5 are Free in both Premium and Standard sections. While the Ka’anapali Hyatt Lu’au grounds themselves are not the best and there is only one Cultural Demonstration-the Pig Imu Ceremony, the Hula Show is excellent! As are the Bar and Dinner buffet, everything was very tasty. Our drink waiter was very attentive and I loved seeing all the Hawaiian Ladies had huge flowers in their hair, making the Polynesian ladies look very exotic!
